Kevin Rudd’s 2020 must be a success for the future of Australia and all humanity

A recent poll in the Australian revealed high levels of scepticism over the efficacy and sincerity of 2020. Were the 1000 community members truly representative? I don’t know but I’d like to find out.

Currently I have no way of assessing the summit other than to say that it must be given a chance. No government has ever tried this before, and, since we, the people, were invited to give input, its success may depend on us as much as the Prime Minister. I note that India is about to organise a simiar event. Hopefully these are signs of governements becoming more conscious. Read more »

Fallen Heroes - Catchpole, Miller, Carey, Hall, Cousins, D’Arcy, Warne, Baggley. What’s going on?

I have some compassion for these fallen sports heroes. Oh don’t get me wrong, I believe they should face the consequences of their actions; they should not be shielded from the law because of their sporting hero status.
However I have long said it takes a whole village or culture to make a boy or man become violent. Yes I’d class all of the actions from the men above as a form of violence. (more about that later in the article). I believe these men are only acting out the larger sickness that is rampant in our society and one which, if unchecked, will prevent humanity from saving the planet and of course itself. Read more »

Prime Minister Kevin Rudd’s 2020 Summit and Sustainable Masculinity

Last night my partner Grace Gawler and I attended a 2020 regional summit group in Northern NSW. The evening began with a video welcome by Prime Minsister Kevin Rudd and a brief explanation about the aims of the summit. I was impressed! I must say I’m holding my breath that we may have a government under Kevin Rudd, that has the intelligence to deal with the enormous problems humanity faces in the 21st century. Read more »

More Aussi blokes embracing healthy masculinity. Send in your success stories about men making positive changes.

My partner Grace Gawler and I, on a recent beach stroll,  passed a friend who was holding hands with his teen age nephew. We were warmed by the sight and we both commented that many men are making positive changes in Australia. Later we noticed other proud dads pushing a stroller and another with a baby in a carry sling. Read more »

What is the relationship between Environmental Sustainability and Sustainable Masculinity?

When I coined the phrase sustainable masculinity I had come to the realisation that the dominantor or old male male mindset was a possible root cause of our environmental and social problems and needed our attention.

I came across a statement by Fred Matser, director of a Dutch NGO. Matser said, ” “The chaos in the environment is a reflection of the disorder in our (humans) minds and hearts (invironment).” Read more »

Nick D’Arcy, Wayne Carey, Ben Cousins, Henjak - products of outdated alcohol/sport culture and unhealthy masculinity says author Pip Cornall.

Enough is enough! When we will begin to wake up as a society and stop burying our collective heads in the sand? How many more headline grabbing stories will it take? This time the headlines were about Nick D’Arcy while Wayne Carey told his sad story on the Andrew Denton Show the other night.

In D’Arcy’s case we get to watch again as yet another of our young, handsome athletes, with the world at his feet, throws it all away in a moment of alcohol or drug induced rage. The public is fed up and righfully so.

I’ve said before that I don’t necessarily blame D’Arcy, Carey, Cousins, Henjak, Warne for their poor behaviour. They unfortunately must face the consequences of their actions but they are societal fall guys really!

I have worked with many similar athletes including some of the 2004 Olympic Team. These young people are victims of a very dysfunctional system. Read more »
