Promoting healthy masculinity - understanding that ultimately porn hurts everyone, including males

Sadly the sexualizing of Society is accelerating with little concern for present and future generations. Paedophile rings are increasing and make headlines on a regular basis. Porn has become a huge industry with massive “collateral damage.” All males embracing healthy forms of musculinity need to be informed about porn and the harm it does to women, children and even the men who engage in it.

Rather than buying into the underlying themes such as a ”real man” must be a stud, I propose the idea that real, “real men” make a stand against porn, since it is yet another form of “invironmental” pollution for humanity to deal with. Read more »

To solve Al Gore’s “Inconvenient Truth,” more men need to develop deep integrity

Let’s face it, we are running out of time, unless we as humans become more honest, we are going to self destruct. That’s right, HONESTY, the type of honesty that has not been common in the modern world. Honesty without spin,  hype, denial, tantrums - just the truth and nothing but the truth. We need to start with our selves - yes it’s difficult work but its the only game in town. Read more »

Prime Minister Rudd is right to tackle binge drinking but lets address the root causes - Pip Cornall

Someting is terribly wrong when significantnumbers of our young men and women want to get off their faces with alcohol (its legal) or drugs (illegal). I applaud PM Rudd for taking action but I’m concerned we are not addressing the root causes of such self destructive behaviour. What is going on? Read more »

Free to be a real man - escaping negative male programming - following on from Robert Bly, Jackson Katz and Steve Biddulph

Despite 4 or 5 decades of the women’s movement and a quieter men’s movement positively impacted by Bly, Katz and Biddulph, the old male stereotype is still dominant - you know the idea of a “real man” based entirely on big muscles, big macho bravado, big stud, big drinker and of course, fearless big fighter. These are not the qualities of manhood which will ensure good families, communities, nations and survival for humanity. Read more »

Stressed out in paradise - lots of pain and little gain - trying to get fit in Byron Bay- Pip Cornall

At Byron Bay this morning while preparing my sea kayak for an ocean paddle, I encountered joggers of all shapes and sizes.  Although I was delighted to see people caring about their personal fitness, I could not help but notice the one thing many of them had in common, was strain. Since the body tells the truth, even when the mind says othewise, I pondered the benefits of such training when their body language indicated much strain - perhaps a more relaxed approach might be healthier. Does Oprah’s new series on Eckhart Tolle contain hints for sustainable masculinity?

I watched one of the Tolle series on Oprah. Some years ago I read his book “The Power of Now” and found it inspirational and useful in some ways. However during  a Google search, I was appalled to come across, dozens of Christian fundamentalist sites, even short movies worried about Oprah’s influence, suggesting her Tolle series was the work of the antichrist - that she was the world’s most dangerous woman!  This seems extreme! What do you think? Read more »

Sir Ken Robinson - the untapped creativity of males - Pip Cornall

A friend in America sent me a link to a remarkable video. It is a speech by Sir Ken Robinson - very funny and very wise - thanks Michael. This link is below.

Sir Ken, a world renowned educator/presenter of great wit and intelligence spoke on how creativity is sucked out of children at school. Since males are half that population and masculinity is my interest area, I began to think about the untapped creativity of males. Read more »
