Sir Ken Robinson - the untapped creativity of males - Pip Cornall
A friend in America sent me a link to a remarkable video. It is a speech by Sir Ken Robinson - very funny and very wise - thanks Michael. This link is below.
Sir Ken, a world renowned educator/presenter of great wit and intelligence spoke on how creativity is sucked out of children at school. Since males are half that population and masculinity is my interest area, I began to think about the untapped creativity of males.
Sir Ken, like myself, believes that in these critical times, we need every ounce of human talent to create a positive future for humanity. Since men are still the majority of decision makers in commerce, law and government I believe we must tap the wonderful creativity of males.
In order to do that we need to inspire and educate prominent men - sportsmen - business leaders - political leaders - to seed the ideas that men everywhere can free themselves of the shackles of the old male programming and socialising.
Then we can begin to tap the goodness and creativity of the authentic male - that real ‘real man’ that exists under the masks, armours and walls that many men have had to erect to survive. From my experience those men are everywhere, in pubs, in prisons, in football teams and dance halls.
Imagine a world where inspiring men through creative endeavours had stoped most male violence, rape, misogyny and crime. Imagine a world where men supported life in all its forms, where men en masse turned their incredible talents towards working with nature instead of against it.
I believe it is possible once we drop the tenacious and still prevalent old story about what a real man is - that old story that dumbs men down and keeps them stuck in idiotic behaviour. It is often said that women emasculate men, and some do, but I must say that our programming is doing a good job of it.
Dear brothers, please watch Sir Ken, feel your true heart, then go out do what it takes to free yourself of the savage programming that keeps so many of us males in dumbville, free yourself and let your creative genius come through - and bring a few mates along with you - you don’t have to do it alone.
