To solve Al Gore’s “Inconvenient Truth,” more men need to develop deep integrity
Let’s face it, we are running out of time, unless we as humans become more honest, we are going to self destruct. That’s right, HONESTY, the type of honesty that has not been common in the modern world. Honesty without spin, hype, denial, tantrums - just the truth and nothing but the truth. We need to start with our selves - yes it’s difficult work but its the only game in town.
In order to save this beautiful planet we need a new breed of honest men be they politicians or business leaders, we need honest scientists, lawyers, educators, doctors and citizenry. Yes women need to be honest as well but while we live in a world where most of our leaders are men, male honesty is of utmost importance.
There is another reason; men have been more heavily programmed to cut off from parts of ourselves, so in order to develop deep honesty men have to do the inner work and discover who they really are.
I’ve written about some of our famous footballers, men who have it all and still trash their lives. I’ll voucher that their deep (not superficial) self esteem is shot. Because unless a man is really honest he will not truly like himself. Under the masks of bravado, even if we lie to ourselves, our soul knows we are lying. So becoming honest is not easy, it wasn’t for me, but I feel really good about my progress and my soul does too.
“But I’m honest,” we all shout in defence. However the truth is, (small pun intended)many of us don’t know what honesty is - not at the level of honesty I’m talking about - I didn’t. For example it is common for the mind to be saying one thing when the body, which is more inclined to tell the truth, is saying another thing. I see it all the time in rafting - people say they are not scared as we go through a class 4 or 5 rapid, but their bodies tell it differently - I look at their bodies and see the truth.
Dealing with all our major decisions requires the truth. For example if GM food is bad for the planet and our health we need to know, just like we needed to know smoking was bad for us. We can’t afford the luxury of falsified science from people on the pay roll of the company who benefits from the lies and spin.
My definition of a real man is one who is authentic, one who knows what he is feeling and thinking, one who is not afraid to share that. Authentic men have much to teach the others and our world will be a safer and saner place when the numbers of authentic men increase. What do you think?
