Wayne Carey, Greg Bird, the Broncos. Who is next? - Enough is enough already; lets find solutions! Pip Cornall
Ok! Time for solutions! What do we do about the bad role modelling by SOME of our talented football players? Whether he did it - whether they did it - something stinks in football land. Time to clean it up!
Yes it’s time to get serious and get to the root causes of such incidents. We have been sticking bandaids on this problem while failing to get at the deeper causes.
Male programming is I believe, one such causal factor. We have a virus on the male hard drive and to make matters worse we keep growing the virus. Who is doing this? I once wrote it takes a whole village to make one baby boy grow up violent.
This problem is multi factorial, like cancer, but I believe it can be modified! It just takes a new kind of male courage! Like cancer a good preventative strategy is the de-tox!
How do we get rid of the male programming toxins that are lodged in our brains, maybe even in our DNA itself?
Well, one way is to start doing some shadow work. I’ve been writing about the shadow in recent posts. That is one place we need to be looking.
What is the shadow? How do we work with it and why would we want to? These are good starting place questions. I wrote in my first book that a good place to take action - and men like action - is to begin cleaning up messes we have made.
The messes were made with one type of consciousness, probably related to our shadow. Einstein said we can’t solve problems at the level of consciousness by which we caused them but the beauty of this approach is that as soon as we decide to clean up our messes - we embrace a different type of consciousness.
I reckon it is what a real man of the 21st century does. One way to become an authentic man is to go out and clean up some messes you’ve made. It’s a pathway towards ‘real manhood’.
I know because I made lots of messes and I felt stupid for years. HOWEVER I really felt good about myself as I set about making amends. I rest easy at night knowing I did all I could to set things right. It was the beginning of finding me—the real man inside.
I’d say give it a try—have a go mate!
I’ll write more about the shadow in future posts.
