Fit to Lead: Why Emotional Fitness is crucial for a healthy form of masculinity.

I’m 62 and have worked in Physical and Outdoor Education since I was 15.  I have tried to help children and adults find ways to exercise, eat well, and stay healthy—today I am gratified that so many people are embracing a healthy lifestyle.

Great achievements … now to the next level. The more I worked with young men through the decades, the more I have appreciated the importance of emotional fitness; in fact I now believe it is crucial to our personal development and happiness—as well as being a key factor in ending violence–and of course, saving the planet. Rudd’s 2020 & Sustainable Masculinity working to counter negative trends like Gladiators, Corey Worthington, girl gang violence

There is an ancient wisdom which suggests that everyone and everything is deeply connected to everyone and everything.

Determined to improve masculinity and create a culture of peace and partnership, many wonderful Aussi blokes are adopting nurturant/partnership models. It is ironic that while such men are working hard to embrace a healthier form of masculinity and improve themselves, the dysfunction of the old male dominator (sometimes called the patriarchal) societal model continues to appear in new forms - I am talking about the surge in girl gangs, Gen Y violence, binge drinking, obscene drug use and weird TV shows. What is the connection?
